Meet Sprocket, Your New AI Assistant for Patent Drafting and Prosecution

Most patent attorneys have seen the demo: an AI tool produces polished text in seconds, and then falls apart on a real application. A tool you can't trust on live work doesn't save time. It only adds complexity.

That is why we waited.

Since 2018, Patent Bots has built tools that are cost-effective, easy to use, and genuinely useful. We added generative AI only when the technology could meet those standards for patent work.

Today, we’re proud to introduce Sprocket, your new AI drafting assistant.

Working alongside you in Microsoft Word, Sprocket builds on your prior inputs and guides you step by step through patent prep and prosecution — while keeping you in control throughout.

Our attorney-first approach to generative AI

Our product philosophy is simple: we don’t add technology for technology’s sake. We use the right technology for the right task — generative AI where flexible drafting helps, reliable automation where predictability matters, and attorney expertise throughout.

For AI drafting, that means a structured, methodical approach rather than autonomous end-to-end generation. Sprocket guides attorneys step by step through the process, allowing them to review and refine the work as it develops. Those corrections become guardrails for what comes next.

Patent Bots was built by a patent attorney for patent attorneys. Sprocket follows the same philosophy: use AI to accelerate the work while keeping the attorney in control.

Sprocket works in Microsoft Word, with your matter as context

You should not have to copy text between windows to use AI.

Every question you ask Sprocket can include the current draft of your application or office action response as context. Generated text can be inserted with a single click, and you can highlight a passage, ask Sprocket to revise it, and replace it in one click.

You can also attach an invention disclosure, disclosure call transcript, figures, prior art, or other supporting materials. For office action responses, Patent Bots automatically retrieves the office action, specification, and cited patent prior art, even for non-public applications.

Sprocket understands Word formatting, too, so claim amendments are inserted with overstrikes and underlines.

To AI or not to AI: The right tool for each drafting task

Not every part of patent drafting calls for the same kind of help. Patent Bots gives you three ways to match the tool to the task:

Gen AI Chat: Draft in context with Sprocket.

Draft conversationally with Sprocket, your AI assistant with full context on your application. Ask questions, generate or revise language, and insert the output directly into Word.

Saved Prompts: Draft your way.

Save your go-to prompts for sections you draft repeatedly. Start with Patent Bots’ built-in prompts, share firm-wide prompts, or create your own based on your drafting preferences.

Rules-Based Generation: Draft predictably.

Some sections don’t need creative drafting; they need to be consistent and repeatable. Rules-based generation repurposes text you’ve already written to produce predictable output without introducing unnecessary AI variability.

Security and confidentiality

Client confidentiality is not optional, so it is built in across the platform. All generative AI tools use zero data retention. Inputs and outputs are never stored or used for training. Patent Bots processes patents on servers in the U.S., and any content moderation is fully automated.
