Webinar: Gen AI Chat for OA Response Drafting

Last week, we introduced Gen AI Chat for OA response drafting, a tool built to guide your response the way a patent attorney would. This week, we walked through it live, and the recording is now available.

In the session, we showed how the tool processes an office action, extracts the rejections, and evaluates them against your draft response. You'll see how it maps limitations to disclosures, assesses how well each is supported, and helps you develop arguments or claim amendments from there.

As always, you stay in control of every decision. The tool suggests; you decide.

Try it today on one of your own office actions. Start a free trial of Patent Bots and use Gen AI Chat to draft a real response.

New in Patent Bots: Gen AI Chat Now Guides Your OA Response Drafting

Responding to an office action takes time: assessing the rejections, checking what's already addressed, and deciding how to respond to what's left. Patent Bots' Gen AI Chat now helps with that work, while keeping you in control of every decision. Here's what's new.

OA Response Drafting

Gen AI Chat is now available for OA response drafting. It’s built around a skill that guides the model to work through a response the way a patent attorney does. It reads the office action, identifies the status of your response, and suggests next steps.

Importantly, Patent Bots automatically passes all the documents needed for context to the Gen AI. We extract the application number from your OA response, pull the most recent office action, your own specification, and the relevant prior art. The tool then uses this to identify the rejections from the OA and check your draft response against them to see what's been addressed and what's still open.

Ask the tool to evaluate a rejection, and it returns a table mapping each limitation to its disclosure and an assessment of how well it's supported. From there, you can ask it to propose arguments or suggest a claim amendment to strengthen your position.

As with our application drafting, you drive the process. The tool suggests; you decide.

Works with Non-Public Applications

You can already log in to Patent Center through the Patent Bots website, and this capability now extends to our Word add-in. For applications that aren't public, a button lets you log in to Patent Center directly. Once logged in, everything works exactly as it does for public applications.

Easy Access to Documents

Our Word add-in includes tabs for the office action, your specification, and the patent prior art, making it easy to review the information you need to respond to the office action.  Even better, each of these tabs now includes a search button so you can jump straight to the relevant sections of the documents.

See It for Yourself

The best way to know whether this fits your practice is to try it on a real office action. Start a free trial and run Gen AI Chat against one of your own responses; you'll see how it identifies rejections, evaluates them against your draft, and helps you build a response or amend claims, all while leaving the final calls to you.

Patent Bots in Action: Gen AI Drafting

When it comes to drafting a patent with AI, Patent Bots takes a unique approach. Instead of one tool, Prep & Pros Pro gives you three distinct ways to draft, each suited to a different part of the process. Watch the overview below, then read on for a closer look at each.

Saved Gen AI Prompts

Some sections of a patent application come up in every draft: the title, the background, the summary. Patent Bots includes a library of pre-written Gen AI prompts built for exactly these recurring drafting tasks.

You're not limited to the built-in library, either. Your firm or company can add organization-specific prompts so every attorney on the team drafts these sections the same way. And you can save your own prompts to match your individual style, so the tool adapts to how you write instead of the other way around.

Gen AI Chat

For the sections that don't follow a template, Patent Bots offers a Gen AI Chat built directly into the Word add-in. The AI assistant uses your patent text as context, and you can attach supplemental documents, like an invention disclosure or prior art, to give the AI even more to work with.

Ask it to draft claims, suggest language, or answer a drafting question, then insert the output directly into your document with one click. The assistant will also proactively suggest next steps based on where you are in the draft.

Rules-Based Generation

Not every drafting task needs generative AI. For sections like the abstract, the brief description of the figures, or PowerPoint and Visio flowcharts, Patent Bots uses rules-based generation to repurpose text you've already written. Because it's rules-based rather than generative, the output is consistent and predictable every time.

Three tools, one drafting workflow

Saved prompts for the sections you write every time. Gen AI Chat for the parts that need more exploration and judgment. Rules-based generation for routine sections. Together, they cover the full range of patent drafting, without asking you to change how you work.
