2026 Patent Bots Patent Speed Rankings

A year ago, Patent Bots added a speed-focused companion to our long-running Patent Quality Rankings. We're excited to share the second edition: the 2026 Patent Bots Patent Speed Rankings.

To determine the Patent Speed Rankings, Patent Bots processed every patent issued by the USPTO over the course of a year to assess the number of days from the first office action to issuance. We then ranked the 709 patent law firms with 50+ issued patents based on how long they take to get a patent issued. The rankings are based on the Patent Bots Speed Score, which takes into account different prosecution pendencies across USPTO tech centers.

Speed can be critical to client success, for example when you have an active infringer, need to defend yourself in litigation, or want to boost company value ahead of an acquisition or investment round. In other cases, there's a tradeoff between speed and other priorities, like securing broader claims. Either way, this data offers insight into how a firm works with its clients.

Beyond the overall Speed Score, Patent Bots ranked firms on other metrics that contribute to the time to issuance: extensions per patent, office actions per patent, and requests for continued examination per patent. Full rankings are available in PatentVerse; the top ten in each category are publicly available, while deeper rankings require a Patent Bots subscription.

Speed Score

Patent Bots Rankings Methodology

We rank law firms over several criteria:

• Number of issued patents.
• Average extensions per patent.
• Average office actions per patent.
• Average RCEs per patent.
• Speed Score: The number of days from the first office action to issuance (normalized by tech center).
• Quality Score: The number of proofreading errors in the issued patent (normalized by tech center).

Of course we recognize that speed is subjective and that many factors contribute to the timeline from application to issuance.
